Lori Erickson is one of America’s top travel writers specializing in spiritual journeys. She’s the author of Every Step Is Home, The Soul of the Family Tree, Near the Exit, and Holy Rover, and her articles and essays have appeared in publications that include the Los Angeles Times, National Geographic Traveler, Better Homes & Gardens, Travel + Leisure, and USA Today. She’s also the creator of the website Spiritual Travels, which features spiritual sites around the world.

Lori lives in Iowa City, Iowa, with her husband, Bob Sessions, who frequently serves as her photographer on assignments (follow Bob on Instagram at bob.sessions). She’s the mother of two adult sons.

Lori received a B.A. in English from Luther College and an M.A. in English from the University of Iowa. Her work has taken her to dozens of countries around the world. She’s a member of the Society of American Travel Writers and the Midwest Travel Journalists Association.

In 2011, Lori was honored with a bronze marker in her hometown of Iowa City, Iowa. The marker is part of the city’s Literary Walk, which features a variety of installations recognizing authors who have lived and worked in the community. The walk was installed after Iowa City was named by UNESCO as the world’s third City of Literature in 2008.
