About

Lori Erickson is a travel writer who explores the sacred through place, story, and experience. Her work focuses on spiritual journeys—both to far-flung destinations and closer to home.

Lori is the author of Every Step Is Home, The Soul of the Family Tree, Near the Exit, and Holy Rover. Her articles and essays have appeared in publications including the Los Angeles Times, National Geographic Traveler, Better Homes & Gardens, Travel + Leisure, and USA Today. She is also the creator of the website Spiritual Travels, which features sacred sites around the world, and the publishing imprint Spiritual Travels Press.

Lori lives in Iowa City, Iowa, with her husband, Bob Sessions, who frequently serves as her photographer on assignments. Together, they have traveled to dozens of countries. They are parents to two adult sons.

She holds a B.A. in English from Luther College and an M.A. in English from the University of Iowa, and is a member of the Society of American Travel Writers.

Lori leads workshops and gives presentations on travel, spirituality, and writing at venues around the United States. She is also a speaker with Humanities Iowa, offering programs for libraries, museums, historical societies, and other community organizations throughout Iowa.

In 2011, Lori was honored with a bronze marker on Iowa City’s Literary Walk, which recognizes authors who have lived and worked in the community. The walk was established after Iowa City was named a UNESCO City of Literature in 2008.
