Lori Erickson grew up on a farm in northeast Iowa and earned a B.A. in English from Luther College and an M.A. in English from the University of Iowa. She’s the mother of two adult sons and lives in Iowa City with her husband, Bob Sessions, who is often her photographer on assignments. (Follow Bob on Instagram at bob.sessions.)

Lori’s work has taken her to dozens of countries around the world. She’s a member of the Society of American Travel Writers and the Midwest Travel Journalists Association.

While she writes about a variety of subjects, much of her work focuses on the intersection of spirituality and travel. In addition to writing, she leads workshops and gives presentations on topics relating to writing, travel and spirituality.

In 2011, she was honored with a bronze marker in her hometown of Iowa City, Iowa (see photo). The marker is part of the city’s Literary Walk, which features a variety of installations recognizing authors who have lived and worked in the community. The walk was installed after Iowa City was named by UNESCO as the world’s third City of Literature in 2008.
